Sabbath: The Holy and Blessed Sign of God’s People

March 6, 2017

This Will Be a Sign Between Me and You

The Sabbath is a holy and blessed day for the people of God. It is the everlasting sign God had made between Him and His people, so we may come to know Him.

Exodus 31:12-13 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.

Ezekiel 20:19-20 I am the Lord your God; follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Keep my Sabbaths holy, that they may be a sign between us. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.”

We can know that God is love and that He spares no effort to save us. He is still creating us to become new creations in Christ who are holy (2 Corinthians 5:17). For about 6,000 years now, since the time of Adam, God has been working day and night (John 5:17). To complete this work of making us complete and bringing us into the eternal rest in heaven, He commanded us, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy” (Exodus 20:8).

Blessed is the One Who Does This

Not only does the Sabbath contain the promise of eternal rest, God even said that those who keep this holy day will receive blessings.

Isaiah 56:1-7 This is what the Lord says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. Blessed is the one who does this—the person who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from doing any evil.” … And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant—these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer …

God promised overflowing blessings and joy, even to foreigners. Truly God’s love and grace are immeasurable!

According to the prophecy that non-Israelites will come to God on the Sabbath, the World Mission Society Church of God is seeing people from around the world keeping the holy Sabbath day and receiving God’s blessings. And for this, we are truly thankful.
