Cigarette butts, plastic bags and bottles, used tissue paper, newspaper scraps and youth dressed in white, armed with black trash bags and gloves…
Many passers-by did double-takes at the unusual sight of volunteers working tirelessly to pick up rubbish on a scorching Sunday morning. Some local residents gave thumbs up and cheers of encouragement to these selfless volunteers who were drenched in sweat, for their efforts to protect the Punggol estate and give this beloved neighbourhood and clean and fresh new look.
On May 22, 2016, 182 members of the World Mission Society Church of God Singapore (SGWMSCOG) decided to set an example for the community by participating in the 2016 Clean WORLD Movement to Cope with Climate Change.
In collaboration with the National Environment Agency, and sponsored by BreadTalk, the SGWMSCOG embarked on a mission to clean up 150 residential blocks, schools, bus stops, parks and places of worship around the Punggol estate.
While cleaning the area, members of a nearby Residents’ Committee (RC) praised the young volunteers and encouraged them with refreshments, saying, “You’re doing a great job! We love you!”
To keep up their spirits, church members continued to praise one another for their efforts and sang praises to God to liven up the atmosphere.
After spending 3 hours in the hot sun and collecting 220kg of trash, the cleanup campaign came to a close. As a finale, the volunteers who participated in the event gathered for a group photo and formed a human chain to transport the trash to the collection point.

Melissa Chee, 25, church member, volunteer for the cleanup campaign, expressed her enthusiasm, “I’m thankful to be able to spend my Sunday meaningfully. The Bible says that we should take up the role of the salt to purify the world, and I’m glad to be part of the fulfilment of this prophecy!”
By doing good deeds for society and local communities, the SGWMSCOG hopes to share the love of Elohim God—God the Father and God the Mother to the people of that region.

I’s just my opinion that volunteers seem to be very happy and glad while they are doing activities.
Now I come to realize that “Church Of God” has received so may awards and good feedback from a lot of countries and peoples.
Spreading Love of Mother throughout the whole world!
I hope many people in the world share the love of Elohim God in the World Mission Society Church of God.
I heard, for long time, many people in Church of God have participated in tree planting, recycling, and community clean-up campaigns. I really appreciate ~ ^^
This is really a wonderful event! I always wanted to do volunteer service but i would feel shy and embarrassed to pick up the rubbish alone. Through this event organized by the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG), I was able to confidently do volunteer service, doing it together as a group is really motivational. Thank you Church of God Singapore for inviting me to this amazing event!

I was happy that I am able to participate this event with my friend. It is such a meaningful event !! I was glad that my friend came to attend even though she is not a member of World Mission Society Church of God.
So happy to see many youths caring for the environment. They are the future pillars of this nation! I wasn’t able to attend this cleanup campaign, being abroad. How I wish I was there to play a part in the clean world movement. I will certainly want to join it the next time!!

During the cleanup, I saw how much the church members want to keep Singapore clean. They pick up every single small bits of trash lying around, which did not catch the attention of ours. Really thanks the church members for all the small efforts they are making 😄
Someone insists, the reason why the environment and ecosystem is being destroyed is that God gave us the power to rule over all nature, so people overuse it and don’t take care of, saying, “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.(Ge 1:28)”
However it is wrong thoughts and bias. Because God gave us all nature, we, the members of WMSCOG, feel responsibility and are looking after in order to get along with it. As the God’s children we take God’s will to heart and practice the love of Heavenly Mother, by doing voluntary service through cleanup campaign.
I remember it was a hot day but the members were all so happy in picking up trash! Seeing the members spend their Sunday on volunteer services, it makes me feel touched. I hope the members will come to inspire the public to serve the community too! 🙂
I am really happy that I get to help out that day. At first, I thought that there won’t be much trash to pick up in Singapore as it is known as a garden city. But through this clean up, I never expected I could pick up so much trash. There are also a few weird ones like a rug and metals.
Normally, I would be sleeping in. But to be able to do good deeds to glorify Elohim that day, I felt that I am doing something meaningful. I hope to do more so that I can receive more blessings too! 😊

On the same day, I was so glad to be able join clean up in Taipei with the WMSCOG as part of the 2016 WORLD movement to cope with climate change! It was so moving to know that all members in the world were cleaning the world with one mind to display the teachings of God who is love 💖
