Participants held a meeting to discuss the agenda for the 20-day programme
On Jul 20, 2016, the World Mission Society Church of God Singapore (SGWMSCOG) hosted a group of youths who came from Korea through the Korea-Singapore Cultural Exchange Experience. The members of the SGWMSCOG warmly welcomed the Korean members by introducing the local culture to them. All members from the two countries who took part in this event were university students. By trying out various food and participating in traditional childhood games such as “Old Maid”, “Donkey” and “Pick-up sticks”, the Korean exchange students came to understand Singapore’s history and culture.
“I have never been abroad before. Being born in a mono-cultural society in Korea, I am excited to learn and experience the life of a regular Singaporean. There is often a lack of opportunity for Koreans to learn about the lifestyle and traditions of other ethnic groups. It is fascinating to see people of different races and religions living together in harmony. Through this visit to Singapore, I am able to learn many valuable lessons of being tolerant and patient towards people who have varying faith and beliefs,” said Lily Kim, 21, Korea cultural exchange member of the World Mission Society Church of God.
The SGWMSCOG and World Mission Society Church of God Korea members also prepared an event to introduce the Korean culture to Singaporeans, through Korean traditional food and games. Singaporean members had the opportunity to participate and learn about the Korean culture with their friends and families.
Although some of the local participants have travelled to Korea before, most of them have not had hands-on experience in making and eating popular Korean street snacks. To them, this was the first. As the activity went on, a variety of food was prepared, such as hot pot, rice cake, kimchi pancake as well as gimbap, a Korean dish made from steamed white rice and various other ingredients, rolled in seaweed and served in bite-size slices. Even though some of this food could be found in restaurants or supermarkets, hand-made food tasted extra authentic. It was the true taste of Korea! As members of the two countries helped each other in preparing food, they laughed, shared and enjoyed the piping hot food they had freshly made. Despite differences in nationality, all the participants interacted warmly with one another, talking among themselves and even tried the Korean games and costumes together.
Being an international organisation, the World Mission Society Church of God creates numerous opportunities for people from diverse cultures and backgrounds to come together to have fun. Despite different culture and upbringings, members always learn to cultivate respect for each and every individual, fostering a harmonious and loving relationship.
I hope, if there is an opportunity I will participate this kind of program and I think this will be very useful and memorable for life.
A variety programs of WMSCOG are helpful to all citizens. I hope more event like this will be held in future.

Yes Kimchi is kind of spicy and hot. But it’s attractive like Korea.
Wow, you know much. You know Korean and when we take a picture we smile saying Kimch. But thesedays, I prefer to say Omoni while taking a picture. 😉
How nice! This is a good and direct way to experience another county’s culture; it is like bringing Korea to Singapore! It’s really important these days to understand another culture, even if they are very much different from yours, because we have come to an age where we frequently are in contact with internationals.
LOVE IT. ENCORE PLEASE. Good food, good fun. Organize again soon okay!!
Yes!! Am looking forward for the another Korean Cultural Exchange program!
It’s truly a meaningful event where you get to know Korean’s traditional culture. I personally hope this kind of event could be held again next time.
It was a joyful experience ^^ We got to learn how to cook some of the Korean food and tried on the Korean costume. I hope that I can participate in more this type of event.
Out of the few Korean Cultural Exchange activity organised by the World Mission Society Church of God, I had the opportunity to participate in one of them together with my friend. It was a really eye-opening experience and a fruitful day for both of us.
Me and my friend enjoyed that day very much – tasting the scrumptious authentic Korean cuisines, intesting traditional Korean games as well as Korean calligaphy.
All in all, the event was really sucessful and our hearts were so full from the love that we received from the members of the Church of God who served us with all their heart.
Really looking forward to the next one! Hahaha! :))

Even though we speak different language and grew up in different cultures, it is wonderful to see how we can bond together so closely within a few hours.
Through this I truly realise that in actually, we all hold the same citizenship and speak the same heavenly language- love.
Through this cultural exchange I feel how much Mother’s love transcends national boundaries. God’s love is truly amazing!
Thanks to Elohim God, we can know more Korean culture. I am very interested in Korean culture since I was young.
And, I also want to know heavenly culture on that day!
